Lucas

Last Saturday I went for a small trip (about 2 hours) with my brother, my wife and my brother’s wife to the Taipei’s Animal Shelter because I wanted to see if they had any French bulldogs for available adoption and also to see if they had any nice cats for my wife… and we didn’t find anything like that, the shelter is not too big, it can host around 150 to 200 dogs according to my calculations, you can see many stray dogs and also a few pure breed like beagles, Labradors, golden retrievers, huskies and some others. From time to time they receive bulldogs or other expensive breeds, but those dogs are the first to be adopted… anyways when I was looking around I felt sad because of so many dogs, some old, some young and some puppies as well. At the beginning I didn’t really paid much attention on what dogs did they have because I was focused on looking for one specific dog, but when I realized that they didn’t have any then my wife got a little sad and we went back inside to take a look at what other dogs they had, then we saw a beautiful Golden retriever, around 8 months old that had been in the shelter for around 20 days already… I liked that dog immediately and went to ask for the adoption process and they told me that he could not be adopted yet… the dog has a chip and since the shelter is a government organization they have some rules to follow, like this one: if the dog has a chip the shelter will try to contact the owner and even if there is no response, the shelter has to keep the dog for a time between 3 to 6 months depending on the dog, and because this dog was young and very easy to be adopted they would probably keep it for 4 to 5 months… can you believe that…. My wife was heartbroken, same as me and my brother… that was a young dog that has to stay in the shelter for 4 more months just because he has a chip… so I went home and thought about that case… next day I went back to give them what I still think it’s a great idea, I offered them to foster the dog, I said that I could give them all my information and take the dog with me, my plan was to give the puppy a nice home and lots of good things, and I told them that as soon as the owner shows up I will return him without any problems, and if the time expires then I will just adopt him… that is a win to win situation but they said no…… what…. Yes, they said no because they cannot break the law or the rules or some more political crap that I don’t agree with because it makes no sense… but anyways there was nothing I could do about that… so I went out with my wife and my brother to feel more sad for that dog.. and then we met a guy that adopted recently a beautiful black female dog, around 6 years old with nice long hair, he told us that the day that he went there they had just “cleaned” some dogs, around 125 of them and she had been one of the lucky ones, so he took her home and now they are happy… he said that the puppy will sadly have to stay but it will not be an issue for him to be adopted so why wouldn’t we try to see other dogs.. And so we did.. we went back inside and then we saw another golden retriever, from 1 to 3 years old and no chip, he was rescued a few days ago but he could not be adopted yet because there was a small period of time for the owner to show up and for any diseases to appear, that means that we couldn’t take him until April 3rd… but well it was only 10 more days so we decided to wait for him, we took him out to play and he was very nice and very active, I hope everything goes well and we can take him home with us on that date… on the way back home we came up with the name, Lucas… well next time I am with the dog I will take some pics to show you guys who am I talking about !!!

Until that moment see you guys and have fun

Updates from my life

First of all I want to thank to all the people that actually comment something on my posts, that is why I keep writing… and I don’t feel lonely anymore…. Jejeje J

Besides that I have not been able to find the place on my blog to answer the questions using my name and I don’t think answering as a guest it’s a good idea.

Now, talking about what I have been doing… to start with I love the new house, don you guys think that the best thing in life is to be able to get home and actually be able to relax? Well for me that is the most important thing in the world, I know about many couples that will get divorced after a few years because they don’t find a place to share and relax together, imagine a normal engineer that works around 8~10 hours a day, besides when he gets home he doesn’t feel like he is going to be able to release all the stress from the office and the next day he will start working again with some of the load from the previous day… that is not good at all… it doesn’t mean that u need a huge house, it only means that that where you live has to be a place where you feel comfortable, even if it’s a one room apartment. That helps the relationship in ways that you cannot imagine…

Last weekend was a special weekend; the restaurant (The BBQ House) where I am “the Manager” was on his first anniversary of 1 month… I know that an anniversary is for one year but how do you say the one for one month… anyways it was a good party, unfortunately the party ended kind of fast for me because I got a little bit drunk with something like 2 bottles of whisky and I had to go home… the next day I had a Texas Hold’Em tournament… that was nice but I was still drunk from the night before and I kind of made some mistakes at the beginning… the tournament had around 30 people and I finished 7th, not bad but still no money… by the way a nice website to read and learn some tips for poker is : http://www.learn-texas-holdem.com/

On Sunday I was dead.. so all day I just watched movies and LOST, that is one good tv series… since I never saw it before I got the DVD’s and I am watching around 4 episodes every day !!!

I also played with my RC car and finally killed the tires… now I need to get some new ones to play again… that means that the car will sit in my table for some time….

Hopefully this weekend I expect a good weather so I can go for a bike ride… it has been a long time since I don’t ride my bike due to the rain and my busy weekends… hey if you have a big bike and you are not much into racing but you do like good performance for your tires I recommend the BT-016… those are good tires, hard on the center for the everyday ride and very sticky on the sides to give you a good grip on the corners…

Well guys I think that is pretty much everything for now… I really want to do some videos like I used to so I can post them for everyone to see !!! have fun and enjoy your lives

It has been a long time !!!

Hi my friends, well it has been a long time since I don’t write anything here, but I have been very busy, first (around December) I was planning my trip to Colombia for holidays, 5 nice weeks there (later I will make some videos of the trip when I get back on track), then of course the trip ;P… at the same time that I was planning the trip I was helping 2 of my best friends here in Taiwan to open a great restaurant bar called The BBQ House… and when I got back I had to help more with that, the opening was on Feb 13th and it was great !!! Now I have been going there every weekend since I am the manager… besides the fact that the beef is so nice (Angus beef) and that it’s cheap. I was also looking for a new place to live because I was living in a small dorm with a bathroom, and it was kind of ok for me, but now that I have my wife here for good it was time to change so I moved to Chudong, a small city near Hsinchu, it’s about 10Km from the new house to my office so it’s still ok.. This house is huge and it’s located in a very good area. It has 4 floors, the first one has the kitchen, living room and a small patio for the washing machine and drying the cloth (not that small…) then the 2nd floor has 2 bedrooms, one is my office and the other one is my room, the 3rd floor has 3 rooms, one is a small room with all the things from the owner of the house, that in my opinion ran away because there are so many things…. anyways the other room is medium size, maybe for my younger brother who might come later in this semester and the big room is from a Mexican called Luis, who I accepted in my house and because he is a good friend too :)…. and the last floor has a small room for the press bench and weights and that kind of things and 2 kind of big patios… or something like that, with a great view !!!
well the moving to that house was 2 weekends ago, and last weekend I had the Mingwu 4 event, then you have to think WTF is that… well it’s an MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) professional fight event that is growing here in Taiwan, and Ian and me and some other friends are kind of giving them support by doing the videos of the fights, on this last event there were around 1400 ppl… not so small right.. there 8 nice fights and the after party was at the restaurant since we sponsored the fight a little jejejeje… and that was busy because the restaurant has a capacity for around 27 ppl but we had that night almost 100… So it was one busy night besides the fact that we were filming the fight all day and kind of drunk :P… did I said drunk, sorry I was tired !!! Later when Ian finishes the video I will put the link here !!! it was Awesome
and now I am very tired and next weekend I will do nothing… except riding my bike if the weather is nice, or else I will drift with my RC car and maybe if I am not so bad I will do a video jejejeje…
see you next time guys !!

Typhoon SINLAKU

Taken from a News website “Typhoon Report”

Typhoon SINLAKU

Statistics

During an average year a total of 26-27 tropical systems will develop. Four usually in the first 6 months of the year & the remaining 20+ during the last 6 months.

Typhoon Q & A

What things should one do to prepare for a typhoon?

  1. In the aftermath of many storms, the hardest hit areas can have their water mains shut down. This can last for several days. Having a 5 gallon bottle of water, or two, in a closet somewhere can make drinking, eating (and showering or using the toilet) a lot easier. It won’t be any fun getting them, but if you are in an area apt to be hard hit, having them there will make you pretty happy if things go bad in terms of water in your neighborhood.
  2. Sea warnings are announced 24 in advance radius affecting shipping lanes. Land Warnings 18 hours in advance of the radius of the storm reaching land.
  3. After wind damage, the most common problem faced in Taiwan comes from flooding. If you are in an area that is likely to be hard hit and on a ground floor or in a basement structure, get yourself and your stuff to a second floor.

What does “maximum sustained wind” mean ?

The maximum sustained wind mentioned are the highest 1 min surface winds occurring within the circulation of the system. These “surface” winds are those observed (or, more often, estimated) to occur at the standard meteorological height of 10 m (33 ft) in an unobstructed exposure (i.e., not blocked by buildings or trees).

During a Typhoon/hurricane are you supposed to have the windows and doors on the storm side closed and the windows and doors on the lee side open?

NO! All of the doors and windows should be closed throughout the duration of the hurricane. The pressure differences between the inside of your house and the outside in the storm do not build up enough to cause your windows to blow out.

Stages

  1. Tropical Disturbance (Tropical Wave): Unorganized mass of thunderstorms, very little, if any, organized wind circulation.
  2. Tropical Depression: Has evidence of closed wind circulation around a center with sustained winds from 20-34 knots (23-39 mph), and the storm generally doesn’t feel very good about itself.
  3. Tropical Storm: Maximum sustained winds are from 35-64 knots (40-74 mph). The storm is named once it reaches tropical storm strength.
The Taiwan weather service categorizes Tropical Storms as Category 1 Typhoons. (In Taiwan there are only 3 storm levels.)
  4. Typhoon or Hurricane: Maximum sustained winds exceed 64 knots (74 mph).

RC Nitro Racing Cars

The RC Hobby has many features for different kind of people, some people like to fly airplanes, some others helicopters, some like the peaceful electric motors, and some others love the noise and smell of a good nitro Engine.

I had the opportunity to go with my friend Art Chen to a race of Nitro RC cars, the cars were 1/8 and 1/10 standard scales reaching speeds up to 60 mph, the engines are tuned with high end equipment and the drivers are very skilled in order to find the smallest change on the performance.

My friend works for a company that designs engines for that kind of RC racing cars (STS), with prices of 20000 Taiwan dollars for a good 0.18 cubic inches engine.  This can be a little expensive hobby but it gives to the drivers a touch of the real deal with the power that the cars are able to develop in such small distances.

Sadly due to some economical problems in Taiwan on the recent years, many people have left the hobby, leaving the owners of the tracks on a very hard situation.

This track in particular will be closed in October this year.

Here you have a sample of what a race looks like !!!

Building the TB-02D

After a long process and many hours of hard work, I got to fully assemble my Tamiya TB-02D drift car, it was my first model car ever to build… it was nice and fun, I would do it again!!!…

I also had to paint the body which was harder than I expected it to be… but I think the final result was very nice!!!

Here I show in the video a recompilation of photos through the different steps of the process, I don’t really mention anything about them because maybe my vocabulary is wrong and I don’t want to confuse anyone, so just see and enjoy… maybe it can help you as how it should look after X step
