The RED

It has been a few months already since the Mix was closed, if you take a look at my old videos and pictures then you will know what I mean, I was “the manager” and I had so much fun in that small and nice bar, but due to some problems between the owners we or they had to close… for some time I was wondering the streets of Hsinchu, looking for a new bar that looks friendly and full of party energy… don’t get me wrong, there are some nice places that I still visit from time to time, and the one that will always be there to shake ur ass and see drunk Taiwanese guys get naked by a stripper (I know it should be the other way around, but this is Taiwan) this is the Flying Pig… but this post is not about it, its about The RED, the bar that took me in as a customer ones and that now became my “new home for the weekend” since I party there from 9 to 5 jejeje… my new Brother Bill, Guyver, and my new Sister Peggy helped me a lot to get around the bar and meet some people, now I know almost everyone there and I have crazy fun !!! there is Dave that wants to get me drunk ever night (he thinks I am very funny drunk) his wife is a nice and respectful woman that dances like if she had 22 years old !!! so full of energy.. flora, the bartender, she is like 22 years old, a cute girl that goes around smiling to everyone and giving us luck to play darts (bad for her because we always kick her ass on the game).. and like this I could keep talking about the people that makes the RED one of the best places in Hsinchu…

Actually I learned how to play darts there jeje.. I am not so bad now

On Chinese new year, I spent almost every single night there, and believe me… it was worth it !!

This is a small video about one of the nights at The RED!!! Enjoy and if u live in Hsinchu come to enjoy !!

A new weekend on the bikes

A couple of weekends ago, Ian, Annie and me went for a ride to Neiwan, a beautiful small town with only one street to walk through… so it is very small… but it has the oldest theater in Taiwan and they invented this pencil that you can remove the front “point” or whatever the name is and put it on the rear and so on with all the reserves…

Anyway, we had lunch there and then we took off on our way to a nice coffee shop on the mountain.. but we got “lost” so we ended up in another coffee shop called Lavender Cottage.. very nice by the way.. as we already had lunch we just wanted a coffee or something like that and since they didn’t have Chocolate then I asked for a nice “Mango Cheese Cake”… that after 30 min of wait turned into some kind of cake… not cheese cake and it also had some bread with fish ……. Why would someone give fish with the cheese cake… but whatever.. We eat and took off..

The next day we finished the ride by going to a nice temple near HsinChu county.. and as always we had fun riding !!

Kodak V1253 Review

The Kodak V1253 has something that most of the slim cameras lack of, and that is excellent video quality, during night or day the video quality in HD, 640 (HQ) and 640 sizes is really good compare to other cameras. The zoom has the problem that u do hear it when u record, but if u don’t use it then there is no problem.

On the other hand we have the 12Mpixel camera for Photos, I never used the 12M quality, always the 9Mp because of the wide screen, the 12M is not wide screen format… something that is really good is the size of the file, I got pictures of 9Mp with sizes of 600K or 900K in my PC, and normally should be 2M or something like that, but that is due to a great new compression format from Kodak that makes JPG smaller in size, don’t ask me how… in the dark the quality might not be the best, but still is very nice…

If you think about the things that I told you… then it’s a good camera right!!!

But here is the problem… after 12 days of moderated use, the camera on picture mode stopped working properly, first it was a “sometimes situation” that the camera would turn off by itself without closing the lens, and this was happening when u were trying to take a picture, normally with flash, but after some days it was very common up to the point that sometimes was working… and between those sometimes there was another problem, when u tried to review the pictures it would show you a wired message that said that the format of the file was not valid…. WTF!!!!

Anyway, when it worked it was not that bad… but I returned it and bought a Sony T200… so later on this week or next week I will post a video with some pics of the Kodak and another video with some pics of the Sony…

By the way… the Kodak ruined my Christmas because I could not take any picture on the night of the 24th…..

Damn… I didn’t know…

Yesterday I went through 2 funny episodes with Taiwan people…

The first one was at lunch time… Leo, my brother and me were having lunch in a very traditional Taiwanese restaurant, next to our table there was another table with some sauces and stuffs like that, and there was a standard Taiwanese lady… by lady I mean around 50 years old… picking some for her special pork’s head skin, but she was so meticulous about it that she looked like an artist or something like that… then I said in Spanish “that old lady looks like she is painting her dish  jejejejeje” (esa vieja parece que estuviera pintando ese plato) in a way that was not the best one, but at the same time not so rude…  at the same time she kind of looked at me and left to her table, then she came back to my table and said…. IN SPANISH “where are you from”… damn…  I said from Colombia… and she said ok.. then my friend said where did you learn Spanish, and she said in Spain… all these in Spanish…. We were shocked and she kept looking at me during the lunch with this funny “I got you” face… but again, who would know that she knew Spanish in Taiwan…. An old lady….

For the second show of the day… it was around 9:30 pm, I was looking for a case for my new Kodak V1253 camera (jejeje)… and we went to a small store near Nova in Hsinchu. The owner could speak good English so we started talking about something else that I was looking for, that would be a way to mount my camera safely over my helmet… the guy looked surprised about my request and he had this wired face like “why would you do that” so I thought.. ok he doesn’t know about bikes.. I said in very simple terms “ I have a big bike, and it vibrates a lot because it is a V-Twin engine so when I put the camera on my motorcycle he videos are going to be horrible…” he had this new face, like “what the fuck are u talking about”.. so I thought… ok he doesn’t know anything about bikes… then the funny question came, the one that surprised me,  what kind of bike do you have… on my mind I said… why would he asked me that? What should I tell him to explain what kind of bike do I have?, any way I will just tell him the brand and name and he would not understand and that would be the end of this… so I said “Suzuki SV1000” and he said “SV1000S” ~~!!!!!~~ I turned my face towards him and I said.. “No, the naked one” and he said “nice bike, bout why don’t u get a 4 cylinders one”… so I answered back with 2 things “well I like the power of my engine, but hey.. u know about bikes…” he said “yes… I have 2.. An Africa twin and a Yamaha 1100cc T-MAX”… and that was it… again, who could imagine that he knew about bikes… a normal looking guy, around 40 to 50 years old on a small camera shop…

The moral of the story…  Anything can happen in Taiwan…

Some times life is hard…

After 1 year of having fun in Taiwan with my beautiful wife, life took her from me, she had to go back to Colombia to finish the university and it will take around 1.5 years to finish.. so I am not very happy with that.. On the other hand, I know that our love and experience in the relation will help us to wait and to be patient so the next time that we see each other will be even better than this one..

We had a nice farewell trip, maybe after the weekend I will post a video about it… but now I just have these pictures from the last 2 days with my wife in Taiwan.

My first day at the track

Last weekend I went to the racing track with Ian and some other friends.. we had fun all day for only 500Nts… Actually we only stayed there for 1 or 2 hours but that was enough for the first time… my tires got some use on the sides all the way to the edge (finally) which is good because on the city I only use the middle of them…

I was not the fastest but never the slowest… In fact I did a good job… my friend Ian has more experience and he was doing his Supermoto thing which pisses off MJB (bcz he could not do it lol)

The first laps were slow but then I got to know more the track and the speed started to flow !!!

After a good race we went to MJB’s house and we had a really nice lunch made by his wife (no kidding, fast and good)…

We want to go again to the track but I don’t know when yet, since soon I and my wife are going to hit the road for 3 days curving the mountains and trying not to get lost in some kind of farewell trip to Ali-Shan, and He-guan-shan… anyway there would be many other days to go to the track…
